OLD ROCHESTER SENIOR HIGH NAMES NEW PRINCIPAL
The Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent, William Cooper, introduced the new Senior High School Principal to the faculty and staff at a brief meeting at the close of school on Tuesday, March 17th. Mr. Michael Devoll of Fairhaven, MA and the current Assistant Principal at Old Rochester Regional High School has accepted an appointment to become the new Principal on July 1, 2009. Mr. Devoll will take over the school leadership post following the term of the current interim principal, John Amaral of Rochester, MA. Mr. Amaral, the retired Wareham High School Principal has served in the Old Rochester Regional post since early October following the resignation of Sheila Haskins early in the 2008-2009 school year.
Mr. Devoll is a 2000 graduate of Providence College, and he holds a Masters Degree in Administration from Bridgewater State College. Mr. Devoll was a most successful history teacher and soccer coach at Old Rochester before beginning his administrative duties in the Fall of 2008. His teaching resume includes 6 years at Old Rochester Regional High School as well as 2 years at Canton High School.
Mr. Devoll's appointment follows a search that produced 22 applicants; 6 semifinalists who were interviewed by a 10 person search committee (4 faculty, 4 parents, 1 SC representative, 1 HS student) headed by the district Superintendent. Three finalists completed day-long visits to the school that included sessions with staff, parents, students and the search committee.
